Advisors

My name is Donna DesRoches. I began teaching in 1979 as a teacher-librarian in Lethbridge, Alberta.  I came to Living Sky School Division in 1987, taking the position of teacher-librarian at the North Battleford Comprehensive High School.  I became a teacher-librarian because of my love of books and reading but continued because of a passion for information and technology.  I began my position as Learning Consultant for the school division in 2006 and am delighted to be able work in the two areas that I am most passionate about: school libraries and instructional technology.

My name is Paige Trainor; I was born and raised in Prince Edward Island, and moved to Saskatchewan with my family three short years ago. My family and I currently reside in Macklin, Saskatchewan, where I have the privilege of working for Living Sky School Division, teaching History and English to high school students. I consider myself extremely fortunate because I majored in both English and History during my undergrad and I am able to showcase my love for these subjects on a daily basis. As a third year teacher, I found myself lacking the technology skills required to bring 21st century learning into the classroom, therefore, this project was an excellent opportunity to gain additional knowledge, expertise and training in the technological realm. I am extremely excited to be working with such an amazing team from all different schools for the 2016 eJournalism project.

I am Rachel Dunn and this is my third year teaching at Kerrobert Composite School. I was born in Ontario, grew up in the US, and have spent eight years living abroad in Thailand. I have been teaching intermediate and senior math and science, as well as some social studies for good measure – my students and I learned about Canadian government together. I have also been teaching Information Processing and Communication Media courses, and I am always on the lookout for community projects for my students. So far my students have been helping create websites and pages for the Town of Kerrobert, the KCS Athletics Department, and the KCS D4 Math Project. The eJournalism Project is an exciting opportunity to provide more experience to students looking to achieve an impact with a real audience. I am particularly excited about the Career Work Experience focus of the conference, and I hope to have a chance to learn about more ideas and opportunities for my students to get involved in organizations and businesses locally and around Saskatchewan.

My name is Judy Enns and I have been a teacher in Living Sky School Division for eleven years. Eight of these years have been spent at Spiritwood High School teaching English Language Arts and Practical and Applied Arts. I am currently teaching ELA 9/10/11/12 at Spiritwood High School. I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with students on this eJournalism project. This will be an amazing adventure and learning opportunity.

My name is Emily Shepherd. Art and technology have been a constant in my life since I was small. I have always enjoyed learning new things and exploring new places. As a grew up I took every opportunity to explore a new country and draw and paint my perspective of the world. Growing up in Ontario, living in Toronto and Halifax for years, I was surrounded by a large variety of beauty and cultures. I attended OCAD University where I studied the world of drawing and painting. Soon after I realized that my love of learning art expanded into teaching Education. I studied to become a teacher through Nipissing University where our focus was on technology and learning, I specialized in art. I started teaching in Manitoba and after two years, moved to the living skies of Saskatchewan. This is now my fifth year teaching and my second time being a part of the ejournalism crew. Presently I am teaching Grades 3 / 4 at Connaught Community School. I am enjoying learning about literacy and math as we continue to explore the curriculum through art and technology.

My name is Kate Carlisle and I joined the Living Sky team in the fall of 2015 as a Learning Consultant, working in the area of language and literacy.  I have a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Regina and a diverse background as a mother, an innovative educator, an entrepreneur and a writer. My work as a teacher has taken me across the province, teaching in urban, rural and remote northern settlements.  The Ejournalism project brings together my love of writing and my commitment to active, experiential and innovative education. It is a wonderful opportunity for students and teachers to engage together in a real world 21st century learning experience.  I look forward to learning with the team!

My name is Rhonda Head and I was born and raised in Edam, Saskatchewan where I attended a K-12 school. SCWEA reminds me of when I was a young student deciding on my future career. I often thought that radio was the place for me, but as I grew older, furthered my education and became a life-long learner, I realized that radio was so much more. My career fell into the areas of Education and I have worked as a Career Education instructor for years. I have completed a BA in History, BEd (U of S) and have just recently completed my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction (U of R). However, radio became my passion. While some people might see it as a side hobby, I see it as my tool to change the way the world is today. By harnessing the power of radio, I was not only able to help others through charity, but I was also able to create an outlet within video gaming communities that spread positivity. When the Gaming World Entertainment Network and Gamers Giving Back were created, I took a risk, which is something future careers need. I may just be “a small town girl”, but I don’t ever sell myself short because small town girls are meant to do big things too. When not learning and DJ-ing, I test and play video games, the piano, and spoil my three nieces and my two cats.
